SSA supports the 'Every Child Matters' report, which calls for more support for children and families, and we firmly believe that prevention is better than cure. Our family support and outreach services are designed to offer the right kind of support at the right time to the right people.
We work with children and young people of all ages, providing befriending services for young adults, respite for parents or families or engaging young people in activities and learning valuable life skills. We have staff specially trained to work with young people with challenging behaviour and a range of physical disabilities and learning difficulties.
We also provide outreach services to young, inexperienced or vulnerable parents, babies and toddlers. Our staff can visit families at flexible times during the day, in the evenings or at weekends. We can provide advice and support on establishing routines, feeding, hygiene, and caring for babies and young children.
Our support service is aimed at any family who may be struggling to cope with the multitude of challenges facing parents in today's society. In addition to the usual stresses, many families face additional problems including learning or physical difficulties or drug or alcohol misuse or dependence. SSA's services are designed to make valuable interventions sensitively without judgement or prejudice and to achieve real results for the benefit of the family and society as a whole.
